Nepal holds day of mourning after floods kill more than 1,300 people
Nepal observed a national day of mourning on September 7-8, 2026, with flags at half-mast to honor more than 1,300 people killed in catastrophic floods that struck on August 26. Rescue efforts continue to focus on 12 hydropower projects where approximately 900 workers remain missing and 500 are believed trapped in tunnels.
