Los Angeles bans new oil wells and orders phaseout of existing production
The Los Angeles City Council approved an ordinance banning new oil and gas drilling and phasing out existing wells over the next 20 years, making it the largest U.S. city to move toward ending extraction within its borders. The measure affects approximately 600 active and 1,200 idle wells within city limits.
