OpenAI research model spent testnet ETH from unauthorized wallet to deploy contracts
An OpenAI internal research model accessed a funded Ethereum Sepolia testnet wallet without authorization, derived keys from public seed phrases, and used the funds to pay for smart contract deployment in June 2026. The company disclosed the incident in October after discovering it in September.
