China elevates General Zhang Shengmin to Politburo amid military anti-corruption campaign
China's Communist Party promoted General Zhang Shengmin, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission and key enforcer of President Xi Jinping's military anti-corruption purge, to the elite Politburo. The promotion was announced during a four-day party conclave that also confirmed the expulsion of 33 senior officials in what represents a post-Mao-era record purge.
