Norway seizes Russian ship in Arctic to enforce $4.2 billion Ukrainian arbitration award
Norwegian authorities seized the Russian vessel Professor Molchanov in Svalbard on September 2, 2026, at the request of Ukraine's Naftogaz. The seizure is part of a global effort to enforce a $4.22 billion arbitration award over Ukrainian assets Russia appropriated following its 2014 annexation of Crimea.
