UCSF launches trial of wearable ultrasound device to treat schizophrenia hallucinations
The University of California, San Francisco opened the MESSI-LEO Phase 1 trial on October 30, testing a wearable 128-element ultrasound headband that targets the caudate region of the brain to reduce auditory hallucinations in schizophrenia patients. The noninvasive treatment addresses persistent hallucinations that affect approximately 40% of patients despite antipsychotic medications.
