Microsoft launches Frontier Company with $2.5 billion investment and 6,000 employees to deploy AI in enterprises

Microsoft announced a new AI deployment-focused operating business called Microsoft Frontier Company on July 2, 2026, backing it with a $2.5 billion investment and 6,000 industry and engineering experts. Described by Microsoft's Commercial Business CEO Judson Althoff as "the largest, most capable, outcome-driven engineering organization in the industry," it will embed engineers directly inside enterprise clients to deliver successful AI deployments using Microsoft's existing AI tools. Early clients include the London Stock Exchange Group, Unilever, and Land O'Lakes. The move follows similar ventures from Amazon Web Services, OpenAI, and Anthropic, though Microsoft's is fully internally funded.
