Former Syrian general Khaled al-Halabi pleads not guilty to torture charges in Austrian trial

Brigadier General Khaled al-Halabi, a former Syrian military officer under the Assad regime, has pleaded not guilty in an Austrian court to charges including aggravated torture, coercion, sexual coercion and bodily harm. Austrian law allows local courts to prosecute certain crimes committed abroad when defendants reside in Austria.
