Meta Platforms plans to start manufacturing its own artificial intelligence chip from September as part of a strategy to boost overall computing power to 14 gigawatts next year, according to an internal memo reviewed by Reuters.
Beijing has blocked Meta Platforms' proposed purchase of AI firm Manus after a months-long probe, forcing Meta to unwind its acquisition of the Singapore-registered company that developed its products in mainland China. Analysts believe this could set a new precedent for Chinese regulatory intervention in AI deals.
