Iranian officials met with Qatari mediators in Doha for a third consecutive day of negotiations aimed at ending the eight-month US-Iran conflict, with discussions focusing on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and broader de-escalation.
Qatari officials conducted over 12 hours of talks with Iranian leaders in Tehran on Friday, attempting to broker direct negotiations between the US and Iran to prevent military escalation before the November 3 midterm elections.
US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Doha to meet with mediators, but Qatar clarified no direct high-level talks with Iran are scheduled, contradicting President Trump's claims that Iran agreed to negotiations. The diplomatic confusion follows weekend military exchanges in the Strait of Hormuz that threatened a fragile ceasefire brokered by Pakistan and Qatar less than two weeks ago.
