Nithya Raman defeats Karen Bass in Los Angeles mayoral race

Democratic socialist Nithya Raman unseated incumbent Karen Bass as Los Angeles mayor, winning with approximately 52% of the vote. The victory gives Democratic Socialists of America control of the mayoralties of the two largest U.S. cities.
