Sweden and France signed a €4.3 billion contract on August 31, 2026, for four Naval Group defense and intervention frigates to form Sweden's new Luleå-class. Signed aboard the Amiral Ronarc'h in Stockholm by Mikael Granholm and Pierre Éric Pommellet, the deal triples Sweden's naval air-defense as it integrates into NATO. French President Emmanuel Macron also offered Sweden the 1,400 km-range MdCN cruise missile, though the ships require launcher upgrades to fire it.
