Peter Murrell, former chief executive of the Scottish National Party and estranged husband of ex-leader Nicola Sturgeon, pleaded guilty to embezzling over £400,000 ($540,000) from the party over 12 years. The plea follows a five-year police probe into SNP finances. Sturgeon, who was cleared of wrongdoing, said she was "deceived," while current leader John Swinney called it a betrayal. Murrell is in custody awaiting sentencing.
