DoorDash announces it will pay its delivery workers, called Dashers, in stablecoins using Stripe's Tempo blockchain across more than 40 countries, representing a major real-world deployment of cryptocurrency payments. The initiative focuses initially on cross-border flows where settlement speed and cost matter most, serving a platform that generated nearly $75 billion in merchant sales in 2025. Stripe's Tempo blockchain, developed with venture firm Paradigm and launched in March 2026, offers sub-second settlement and fixed fees, attracting partners including Mastercard, Visa, UBS, and Klarna. Stripe processes nearly $2 trillion in annual payments and acquired stablecoin firm Bridge for $1.1 billion in 2024, positioning Tempo as core infrastructure for its money movement products in the $300 billion stablecoin market.
