EU awards €388M contract to French state-owned Bull for AI supercomputer in Finland

The EuroHPC Joint Undertaking has awarded a €387.8 million contract to French state-owned supercomputer manufacturer Bull to build the LUMI-AI supercomputer in Kajaani, Finland. Scheduled for deployment in late 2027, the system will deliver ten times the AI capacity of the existing LUMI system. The project is co-funded by a six-nation European consortium to address severe capacity shortages, highlighting Europe's push for technological sovereignty using state-owned infrastructure.

LUMI-AI supercomputer procurement
