Former Arizona Senator Jon Kyl, a highly influential Republican who served nearly 30 years in Congress, has died at age 84 from complications of a neurological disease. Known as a policy-focused "legislator's legislator," Kyl rose to Senate Minority Whip and shaped key policies on taxes, water rights, and national security. He was a primary author of the 1995 Jerusalem Embassy Act, guided Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court confirmation, and briefly returned to the Senate in 2018 to fill John McCain's vacant seat.
