Yupp.ai, a crowdsourced AI feedback startup, announced its shutdown on Tuesday less than a year after launching in June 2024 with $33 million in seed funding led by a16z crypto. The platform gave 1.3 million users free access to over 800 AI models from OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic, collecting preference data that AI labs paid to access while rewarding users up to $50 monthly through crypto payments. Despite signing several AI labs as paying customers, Yupp.ai failed to secure product-market fit as the AI landscape shifted toward agentic systems connecting models to tools rather than simple chatbot comparisons. The company, co-founded by former Twitter and Google ML manager Pankaj Gupta, attracted investments from prominent angels including Google DeepMind's Jeff Dean and Twitter co-founder Biz Stone.
