British Columbia Premier David Eby declared a provincial state of emergency on August 8, 2026, as the explosive Bald Range wildfire forced the overnight evacuation of over 20,000 residents. The out-of-control blaze rapidly expanded to over 19 square miles, cutting power and clean water to the district of Summerland and threatening Peachland. With roads blocked by flames, emergency crews deployed helicopters to airlift trapped residents, including more than 50 people from the community of Faulder.
