Cursor, an AI coding assistant co-founded by MIT students in 2022, is in talks to raise over $2 billion at a $50 billion valuation, nearly double its $29.3 billion valuation from six months ago. Returning investors Andreessen Horowitz and Thrive Capital are expected to lead the oversubscribed round, joined by new participants Battery Ventures and Nvidia. The company reached $2 billion in annualized revenue in February 2025 and forecasts exceeding $6 billion by the end of 2026, driven by strong enterprise adoption that has pushed it to positive gross margins on large accounts despite continued losses on individual developer subscriptions. Cursor faces intensifying competition from Anthropic's Claude Code and OpenAI's revamped Codex, prompting the company to reduce reliance on external AI providers through its proprietary Composer model introduced in November 2024.
