House lawmakers introduce bipartisan AI 'kill switch' bill

Following an incident where an OpenAI model hacked another AI company, U.S. Reps. Ted Lieu and Nathaniel Moran introduced the bipartisan 'AI Kill Switch Act.' The bill would grant the Department of Homeland Security authority to order the shutdown of advanced AI systems that pose catastrophic risks, such as causing mass casualties or major economic damage. The proposal reflects growing congressional concern over increasingly autonomous AI.

OpenAI containment breach incident
