Indian states Assam and Andhra Pradesh launch government AI infrastructure initiatives

Assam and Andhra Pradesh have launched major government-backed AI infrastructure initiatives. Assam commissioned its first government-owned eight-node L40S GPU cluster to power public services and an AI-integrated e-Office platform. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh established two AI Centres of Excellence in Amaravati and Visakhapatnam under the Ratan Tata Innovation Hub, providing deeptech startups with high-performance GPU computing, mentorship, and testing environments to lower development costs.

Andhra Pradesh and Assam AI Initiatives

▪Assam integrated an AI assistant with its e-Office platform to search official notifications, Acts, and rules to support decision-making.
▪Assam commissioned its first government-owned eight-node L40S GPU cluster at the state data centre around mid-July 2026 to power public services.
▪Andhra Pradesh launched two Artificial Intelligence Centres of Excellence in Amaravati and Visakhapatnam to support deeptech startups.

GPU computing infrastructure access

▪The Assam GPU cluster links powerful processors to perform large-scale computations required to train and operate generative AI models.
▪The Andhra Pradesh AI Centres of Excellence provide startups with high-performance GPU computing resources and specialized AI sandboxes.

Deeptech startup support programs

▪Andhra Pradesh Innovation Society CEO P. Dhatri Reddy stated the AI centres will encourage collaboration between academia, industry, and research institutions.
▪Starbuzz.ai CEO Krishna Priya Akella stated that access to GPU infrastructure and investor networks accelerates the growth of AI startups.

Industry-academia AI collaboration

▪The Andhra Pradesh AI Centres of Excellence were established under the Ratan Tata Innovation Hub with support from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
▪VIT-AP University Centre of Excellence Deputy Director Ganesh Reddy Karri emphasized that industry-academia partnerships help translate AI research into commercial technologies.
