Marc Rosenblum resigns from DHS citing 'war on immigrants' and corruption

Marc Rosenblum, the top data official at the Department of Homeland Security, has resigned, citing the Trump administration's "war on immigrants" and "brazen corruption." His departure highlights a halt in public data reporting on immigration since February 2025. Rosenblum, a 10-year veteran of the agency, had previously warned in 2015 that mass deportations could cost the U.S. $1.6 trillion in GDP. DHS dismissed his criticisms as opinion.

Rosenblum resignation

DHS data transparency issues

▪As a deputy assistant secretary, Rosenblum's role was to consolidate and publish data from DHS's 22 siloed component agencies.

Trump administration criticism

Mass deportation warnings

▪In 2015 written testimony to a Senate committee, Rosenblum warned that a mass deportation policy could harm the U.S. economy and established communities.
▪The 2015 testimony also stated that "a robust enforcement system inevitably inflicts damage on established families and communities."
▪Rosenblum's 2015 testimony estimated that deporting all 11 million unauthorized immigrants would reduce U.S. real GDP by $1.6 trillion (5.7%).
