A study of 230 patients with brain metastases showed that FDA-cleared GammaTile, a radioactive wafer placed where tumors are surgically removed, kept nearly two-thirds alive two years later versus around a third with standard radiation. Tumors recurred at the surgical site in just 1% of GammaTile patients compared to 12% with standard treatment. Between 100,000 and 200,000 Americans annually are diagnosed with cancer spread to the brain.
