Stablecoin issuer Tether added approximately $70 million in Bitcoin to its reserves in April 2026, transferring 951 BTC from Bitfinex to bring total holdings above 97,141 BTC worth $7.16 billion. The purchase follows Tether's 2023 policy to allocate up to 15% of realized operating profits into Bitcoin, funded by excess earnings rather than raised capital. With $10 billion in net profit for 2025 driven by USDT growth and U.S. Treasury income, Tether ranks as the second-largest corporate Bitcoin holder behind Strategy. The company maintains $6.3 billion in excess reserves against $186.5 billion in liabilities, with diversified holdings including $141 billion in U.S. government debt and $17.4 billion in gold alongside its Bitcoin position.
