Nvidia's next-generation Kyber NVL144 AI server rack system has reportedly been delayed by over a year to 2028 due to manufacturing challenges with its complex 78-layer PCB midplane. While Nvidia rejected the report, stating its roadmap remains intact, news of the delay and the cancellation of alternative stopgap designs sent Asian supplier stocks tumbling on July 6, 2026. Japan's Ibiden fell 10%, Hong Kong's Kingboard Laminates dropped 18%, and South Korea's Samsung Electro-Mechanics slid 11%.

Nvidia Kyber NVL144 delay

▪Nvidia's next-generation Kyber NVL144 rack-scale architecture, designed to house 2027 Rubin Ultra chips, has been delayed by more than 12 months to 2028.
▪Nvidia rejected the SemiAnalysis report regarding the Kyber delay and stated that the company's product roadmap remains intact.
▪Nvidia canceled its NVL72x2 back-to-back rack architecture, which was designed as a stopgap alternative to Kyber, following pushback from cloud service providers over its design and operational burden.
▪Nvidia's NVL576 configuration, which connects eight Kyber racks via optical connections, is likely delayed or expected to ship only in limited volumes.

PCB manufacturing difficulties

▪The delay of the Kyber NVL144 system stems from manufacturing challenges with its printed circuit board (PCB) midplane, which connects electronic modules within the system.
▪The Kyber PCB midplane design requires laminating three 26-layer sections into a single 78-layer stack with trace spacing at or below 25 micrometers to maintain signal integrity.

Asian supplier stock declines

▪Kingboard Laminates Holdings of Hong Kong saw its stock price drop by 18% on July 6, 2026, following the reported Nvidia server rack delay.
