On August 5, 2026, the Trump administration announced over $100 million in rewards and new indictments targeting the leadership of the Cártel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG). The State Department increased the reward for California-born leader Juan Carlos González, alias "Pelón," to $25 million. González assumed control of Mexico's largest cartel after his stepfather, "El Mencho," was killed in February 2026. The DOJ also indicted five senior members for drug trafficking and a timeshare fraud scheme targeting elderly Americans.
