NeoCognition, an AI research lab founded by Ohio State professor Yu Su, has raised $40 million in seed funding co-led by Cambium Capital and Walden Catalyst Ventures, with participation from Vista Equity Partners and angel investors including Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan and Databricks co-founder Ion Stoica. The company emerged from stealth mode to develop self-learning AI agents that can autonomously specialize in any domain, addressing the current limitation that AI agents complete tasks successfully only about 50% of the time and require custom engineering for each vertical. NeoCognition's approach mirrors human learning by building agents that are generalists capable of rapidly specializing, targeting enterprises and SaaS companies as customers. The 15-person team, mostly PhD holders, aims to provide the critical missing link of rapid specialization capacity that Yu Su believes is necessary for reliable autonomous AI performance.
