Ukraine-Bound LPG Tanker Struck Off Romanian Coast, Injuring Three; Romanian President Links Incident to Russia’s War

A Liberian-flagged LPG tanker, the Gas Lisbon, was struck on July 20, 2026, approximately 20 nautical miles off the Romanian coast in international waters. The vessel was carrying more than 3,790 tonnes of propane from Alexandria, Egypt, to the Ukrainian port of Reni when the strike caused a major fire and injured three crew members. All 17 crew members were evacuated safely. Romanian President Nicușor Dan said the incident was most likely linked to Russia’s war against Ukraine.
