Novo Nordisk's experimental drug, ziltivekimab, failed to reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes in a large Phase 3 trial of over 6,300 patients with heart and kidney disease. The failure, which caused Novo's shares to drop ~7%, casts doubt on the strategy of targeting inflammation for cardiovascular disease, despite the drug successfully lowering inflammation markers. The result is a blow to the company's growth plans beyond diabetes and obesity.
