Tether's USDT stablecoin is returning to the Bitcoin network in October 2026 through Utexo, a Tether-licensed infrastructure project that raised $7.5 million. Utilizing the RGB protocol and Bitcoin's UTXO model, Utexo will enable private transfers, direct BTC-USDT swaps, and native Bitcoin-backed loans. To maintain compliance without account-freezing capabilities, Utexo will blacklist illicit UTXOs. Over 450 businesses have expressed interest in the launch, which plans to expand to the Lightning Network.
