A US Army AH-64 Apache helicopter crashed in the Strait of Hormuz near Oman at around 3am local time on June 9, 2026, while patrolling regional waters. Two crew members were rescued within two hours by a US Navy drone in what appears to be the first such drone rescue operation. US Central Command gave no reason for the crash. Trump confirmed both pilots were in stable condition and said a report would be issued later that day.
