To comply with Article 50 of the EU AI Act, Anthropic has begun embedding invisible, machine-readable watermarks in text and C2PA metadata in files generated by new Claude models starting August 2, 2026. Although triggered by European law, Anthropic is applying these tracking measures globally across all Claude products and cloud partners. While Anthropic claims the watermarks do not degrade output quality, critics warn of an unavoidable surveillance infrastructure that strips neutrality from professional writing.
