FAA Certifies Boeing 737 Max 7 for Commercial Service After Nearly Decade-Long Delay

The Federal Aviation Administration has certified the Boeing 737 Max 7 for commercial service on August 3, 2026, ending a nearly decade-long delay. The approval follows years of intense regulatory scrutiny and technical redesigns, including updates to flight-control software and the engine anti-ice system, triggered by fatal Max 8 crashes in 2018 and 2019. Launch customer Southwest Airlines, which holds the bulk of the 282 unfilled Max 7 orders, welcomes the milestone but does not expect to fly the aircraft until 2027.
