Intuitive Surgical Unveils Five-Layer AI Framework and Demonstrates Cross-Country Telesurgery at Robotics Conference

Intuitive Surgical unveiled a five-layer framework for AI-enabled surgical care in connection with the Society of Robotic Surgery’s annual conference on July 23, 2026. The framework progresses from good data and meaningful insights through intraoperative guidance, augmented dexterity and supervised autonomy. Intuitive said its approach draws on a data foundation associated with more than 20 million da Vinci procedures performed globally. The company also announced plans for a live telesurgery demonstration connecting surgeons at its facilities in Sunnyvale, California, and Atlanta, Georgia, using a da Vinci 5 system on an advanced tissue model. Intuitive said the telesurgery software remained in development, its safety and effectiveness had not been established, and it was not currently available for sale or clinical use.
