ECB Announces Digital Euro App Will Exceed EU Accessibility Standards

The European Central Bank has unveiled accessibility features for its planned digital euro app, designed to exceed the requirements of the European Accessibility Act. The standalone app will incorporate advanced features like screen-reader compatibility, keyboard navigation, and reduced motion settings. Scheduled for a 12-month pilot starting in late 2027 with 36 payment providers, the app will serve as a public fallback to commercial services, despite pushback from private banks.
