Circle announces that its Arc layer-1 blockchain will feature quantum-resistant cryptography from its mainnet launch, allowing users to create wallets protected against future quantum computer attacks through post-quantum signature schemes. The initiative responds to growing concerns about 'Q-Day' arriving sooner than expected, following Google's report on quantum threats to Bitcoin and Ethereum. Arc, which launched its testnet in October and uses Circle's $77.5 billion USDC stablecoin for gas fees, will implement quantum resistance in phases: first protecting user wallets and private transactions, then securing validator infrastructure including cloud servers and hardware security modules, and finally hardening the validator signature layer after performance testing. The blockchain is designed for institutional stablecoin finance and currently finalizes blocks in under one second.
