The medical community is intensifying its scrutiny of stem cell and orthobiologic treatments for chronic pain and osteoarthritis. While platelet-rich plasma (PRP) shows clinical promise, therapies suffer from extreme variability in donor cell quality and delivered doses. To separate science from marketing hype, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons launched an orthobiologics registry in December 2025. However, experts warn that without standardized, affordable tools to measure the exact cellular composition of injectates, clinical outcomes will remain highly inconsistent and difficult to validate.

PRP clinical evidence
