Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar announced a joint five-point peace initiative in Beijing on Tuesday following a one-day meeting aimed at ending the conflict in the Persian Gulf. The proposal comes after five weeks of US-Israeli bombardment of Iran, with the war showing little sign of relenting. Pakistan's foreign minister traveled to Beijing to secure Chinese support for Pakistan's faltering efforts to negotiate an end to the war and establish itself as a peacemaker between the United States and Iran. The joint initiative represents a diplomatic effort by China and Pakistan to restore peace in the Middle East amid ongoing hostilities.
