OpenAI announced plans on July 22, 2026, to build a $20–30 billion data center campus dubbed "Project Camellia" in Effingham County, Georgia, northwest of Savannah. The 1,400-acre facility has contracted 3.2 gigawatts of power from Georgia Power, with several hundred megawatts expected online starting in 2028 and development continuing through 2032. The project uses a closed-loop cooling system with minimal water use and a "full stack" design that allows computing components to be replaced as technology evolves, according to OpenAI Chief Global Affairs Officer Chris Lehane.
