Eighteen suspects in the July 2021 assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse were extradited to the United States on September 20, 2026, to face trial in Florida. The suspects, including more than a dozen Colombian soldiers, were flown out on a military plane. U.S. Attorney Jason Reding Quiñones announced that 30 people have been indicted in the case. While U.S. officials frame the transfer as a major step toward accountability, Haitian human rights activist Pierre Espérance criticized the move as a disgrace that highlights the collapse of Haiti's domestic judicial system.
