Iran and the U.S. are reviewing a peace proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and provide a 30-day negotiation period for a comprehensive deal. The proposal follows May 7, 2026 U.S. retaliatory strikes on Iranian facilities and Iranian attacks on USS Truxtun (DDG 103), USS Rafael Peralta (DDG 115), and USS Mason (DDG 87) transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Both sides have exchanged attacks since the April 8, 2026 cease-fire took effect.
