Samsung Electronics is in talks to invest up to €1 billion in French AI startup Mistral as part of a funding round that could value the company at €20 billion. The potential deal comes amid a global chip shortage and rising demand for "sovereign AI" alternatives in Europe, sparked by recent U.S. export controls on Anthropic's models. Mistral is also expanding its infrastructure through a multibillion-dollar agreement with Microsoft. The Financial Times reported that Mistral and Samsung had previously discussed collaboration in AI memory, amid an industry-wide shortage of computing capacity.
