Gunmen attacked Diori Hamani International Airport and an adjacent military airbase in Niger's capital Niamey on Thursday, killing 11 security forces members and 2 civilians. The al-Qaeda-affiliated group JNIM claimed responsibility for the assault, while authorities reported killing 22 attackers.
At least 49 Nigerien nationals died of thirst after their truck broke down in the Sahara Desert in northern Niger, leaving them stranded for days. Two survivors walked over 50km to reach water and alert authorities, who found the victims and buried them in mass graves.
