A 58-year-old Moscow-born gunman killed at least six people and injured fourteen others, including a 12-year-old boy, during a shooting rampage in Kyiv's Holosiivskyi district on Saturday. The shooter, who had lived in the Donetsk region and used a registered automatic weapon, set fire to his apartment before opening fire on the street, killing four people, then taking hostages in a nearby supermarket. After 40 minutes of negotiations during which the gunman made no demands but killed one hostage, police chief Ihor Klymenko ordered officers to eliminate the shooter, freeing four remaining hostages. Ukrainian authorities are investigating whether Russia directed the rare attack and how the shooter obtained his weapon permit.
