OpenAI has acquired Hiro Finance, an AI personal finance startup founded in 2023, signaling plans to integrate financial planning capabilities into ChatGPT. The startup, led by serial entrepreneur Ethan Bloch who previously sold Digit for approximately $230 million, offered AI-powered financial planning that modeled what-if scenarios for consumers. Hiro Finance will shut down operations on April 20 and delete all user data by May 13, while its roughly 10-person team joins OpenAI. The acquisition marks OpenAI's second purchase of a financial app as it expands ChatGPT's capabilities beyond conversational AI into specialized domains like personal finance management.
