On July 1, 2026, the World Bank approved $265 million for the 300-megawatt Ifahsa Pumped Hydropower Storage Project near Chefchaouen, Morocco. Co-financed by the African Development Bank and implemented by ONEE, the project will integrate 1 gigawatt of renewable energy, avoiding 1.7 million tons of CO2 emissions annually. It will also generate 820 annual construction jobs and unlock $1 billion in private investment.
