The $30.9 million initiative follows intense public scrutiny over the fatal July 2026 shootings of a Houston homebuilder and a Maine motorist, neither of which was recorded. However, ICE's policy allows the agency to withhold or indefinitely delay releasing footage of serious injuries or deaths unless doing so is deemed in the "best interests of the agency," sparking sharp criticism from transparency experts.
