ElizaOS founder declares token dead and shuts down foundation after lawsuit settlement
ElizaOS founder Shaw Walters has declared the project's ELIZAOS token "dead" and is shutting down its foundation after a class-action lawsuit settlement drained its entire treasury. The token, once part of a $2.4 billion project called AI16Z, has collapsed to an all-time low. The lawsuit alleged the project falsely marketed itself as an AI-run fund and diluted holders. Development of the underlying ElizaOS software will continue without a token.
ELIZAOS token shutdown

▪The shutdown was prompted by a settlement with token holders represented by Burwick Law in a class-action lawsuit.
AI16Z rebrand from a16z
▪The project originally launched on Solana in October 2024 as AI16Z, reaching a peak market capitalization of around $2.4-$2.5 billion in January 2025.
▪The project rebranded to ElizaOS after venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) objected to the use of its "a16z" brand shorthand.
Class action fraud allegations
▪The lawsuit alleged the project was marketed as an autonomous, AI-run venture fund when it was actually controlled by insiders.
▪The complaint also alleged that a token migration from AI16Z to ELIZAOS diluted existing holders by increasing the token supply from 1.1 billion to 11 billion.
▪The class-action lawsuit, filed in April in the Southern District of New York, accused Eliza Labs of false advertising, deceptive practices, and unjust enrichment.
AI agent token sector

▪By early 2025, the AI agent token sector was valued at several billion dollars, with AI16Z and Virtuals Protocol as major contributors.
Truth Terminal GOAT origins
▪Following interest in Truth Terminal, an unaffiliated developer launched the GOAT token, which reached a $1.2 billion valuation within days in October 2024.
▪The AI agent token trend began with Truth Terminal, an X account that received a $50,000 Bitcoin donation from a16z founder Marc Andreessen in July 2024.
